Aviva is a visionary whose music speaks directly to your soul. She knew she was born to entertain when, at age eight, she won a national contest for a song she wrote, then performed it in front of thousands of people. Her New York upbringing provided her with plenty of opportunity to nurture her gifts. She began playing piano at age eight and, with the help of world renowned drummer Omar Haakim, she recorded her first demo at age sixteen. Touring nationally with an A Capella group helped discipline her spirit and art into true humility. Playing with jazz bands helped her to grow instrumentally, developing her skills on the trumpet, drums and piano (she just recently in August 2010 began learning guitar). But neither of these expressed her most unique musical visions. Aviva moved to Atlanta where her five year hiatus from writing songs finally ended. In Atlanta she studied massage, homeopathy, breath therapy, Chinese Medicine, primal therapy and World dances. Her mystical journey was incorporated into her creative muses, inspiring her to write songs once again. Atlanta's open arts supportive community allowed Aviva to breathe a little more and take risks with her talents. She was compellingly embraced by musical theatre groups, local dance companies, and spiritual performers. Connecting with kindred spirits continues to inspire her music as she intimately shares her heart and ego struggles while producing an alchemy for the soul. Aviva weaves into her songs a gentle reminder of an unspoken connection between all spirits. Her song Emet is a powerful reminder that we are beautiful and connected beings, while Cannabis Car is about protecting and caring for our natural environment. The inspiration for Cannabis Car came while working on a farm in exchange for vegetables. Aviva learned from a farmer that Henry Ford created a car that ran on cannabis oil, and in those days, it was illegal for farmers not to grow cannabis as part of their crops. "That was not the kind you smoke," Aviva joked, adding that she does not indulge in mind altering substances. She is driven to stay on a path that can help others and be an example to children. She is a Qi Gong and Belly Dance instructor. She teaches and practices earthen building, and her life is devoted to a spiritual path. "I needed to live outside of accepted culture so I could explore what I saw as the greatest potential for humanity," she said. "Being who we really are brings out our individual gifts and abilities. All too often we get distracted by money or the pursuit of money, which does not bring happiness," Aviva's passion has brought her together with many talented artists throughout the southeast. Her own band, a group of dedicated musicians who call themselves, The Flying Penguins, formed in 2009. Aviva and the Flying Penguins exude a vibe of a band that has been together for years and interact like family. Immediately Aviva and the Flying Penguins began performing in Atlanta and Tennessee and recently released their first CD containing two of their most popular songs , 'Emet' and 'Cannabis Car.' Their original sound is unquestionably a gift to the masses and something we've all been waiting for. Their sound and stage presence integrate a Gypsy stir of Sanskrit, Spanish, Reggae, Creek Indian, Zulu, and Aviva's Middle-Eastern culture. They create a vibe that stirs the soul and awakens the emotions. My mission with my music career is to make good music in many different styles that speaks my heart and shares pop culture-breaking ideas. I not only want my music to be about us getting along, but I want the performances of it to assist in our honest connection to each other and each other's emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual needs. I intend to create music that inspires soul expression and feelings of comfort, relaxation, and joy supporting one's place here on earth. I believe that if we all feel truly comfortable with ourselves we really can all hold space for each other and get along, all the while taking care of our planet, because our true nature is love.
